While attending class the discussion moved to the United States and the period of the Bush Administrations.  The comments, as expected, were quite hostile and very anti-sympathetic.  Some of the comments were as follows:

George Bush and his administration has created a culture of fear within the United States.  You notice it when you enter an airport or government building, men with machine guns greet you and intimidate you.

The Patriot Act was created to build fear among the US citizens because if the people fear the government, it can do whatever it wants.

The US media is a branch of the government used to keep the people in fear so that they are always suspicious of one another and let the government do what it wants.

b00068vaog01lzzzzzzz2Firstly, if you are one who believes that the mass media is teamed up with the government to coerce you into doing anything against your will, you my friend are just as much a product of the system as I am for believing in journalistic integrity.  For you see, people like Michael Moore, Noam Chompsky and Al Gore are all making a large profit off of your naivety .  The endless amount of documentaries, books and outright propaganda is outrageous.  Yet, they continue to openly badmouth their country’s leader for policies which keep their children sleeping soundly at night not fearing a real threats: missiles from gaza, columbian druglords

Seconldy, Mass media has been trying so hard not to be bias that they have, in my opinion, crossed over to being consistently liberal minded.  CNN, for example, can almost be considered one of Barack Obama’s campaign contributors as it won him the Democratic primaries by constantly slandering Senator Hillary Clinton.

Thirdly, the Patriot Act has been critized for apporpriate reasons but unrealistic situations.  Yes, the Patriot Act does infiringe on some people’s rights, but only those who commit crimes.  So, after Barack Obama closes GTMO and the terrorists are moved to US prisons, we can all cheer on the savior of the free world  for truly bringin terrorism back to American soil.

Lastly, if you call armed guards at US airports and government buildings a plot to scare people, think back to 911 when armed terrorists highjacked planes and flew them into the world trade center.  911 is exactly the reason it is necessary to have armed personel at airports to ensure YOUR security while flying.

For all of those who are scared of their government and hate it because it may treat some criminals like criminals, remember, FREEDOM ISN’T FREE.
